Argenta Insights: Foundations for future wealth

Exploring the evolution of HNWI profiles and their approach to preservation, legacy, and advisor partnerships

We surveyed 200 high-net-worth individuals (£10m+ investable assets) to understand how wealth creation, preservation, and advisor relationships are evolving. The data shows a decisive shift: entrepreneurship and investments now outpace inheritance, and wealth preservation is the number one priority across demographics.

Against economic and regulatory uncertainty, investors continue to value trusted human relationships, while embracing digital tools for transparency and access. The report explores why Lloyd’s of London remains a distinctive diversifier with low correlation to traditional markets, and how today’s investors are blending long-term resilience with active, informed decision-making.

Key Findings:

  • Inheritance is no longer primary: Only 11% of HNWIs cite inheritance as their main source of wealth.
  • Preservation first: Wealth preservation is the top driver of investment decisions.
  • Human and digital: 65% still use a financial adviser; strong relationships matter, paired with seamless digital access.
  • Tax & regulation matter: Changes to UK taxation and regulation rank as the biggest long‑term portfolio threat.
  • Diversification: Lloyd’s returns are lowly correlated to traditional markets, offering genuine diversification.
  • Performance: APCL private investors achieved an average 13.4% return on capital over 15 years, with standout 30% in 2023 (net of fees/costs; modelled on avg £3m capacity. Past performance is not a guide to future results).

Why it matters

With the Great Wealth Transfer accelerating and market volatility persisting, investors are re-centering portfolios around resilience and informed diversification. Lloyd’s of London, a market built on risk expertise and real‑economy underwriting, continues to offer alternative, low-correlated returns and a long‑view approach that aligns with preservation and legacy goals.
